best movie monsters

I agree with Bryan on "The Host." The daylight attack scene was awesome, and I loved how the movie mixed scary elements with really funny moments that were also pretty sad (re: the "empty" gun scene).

I heard that an American remake is in the works (hey, don't shoot the messenger!) and I would love for them to set it in Chicago. I mean surely something big and nasty is growing in Lake Michigan (oye!) and a trip down the Chicago River to snack on some State Street shoppers is only natural.

Right?

Pumpkinhead was kind of nasty. I always enjoy a good werewolf any day though.

Man, I gotta go with anything parasitic. If it eats you from the inside out then it terrifies me. Jason, Michael and Freddy are great but they don't seem to have much purpose other than to kill in the most gory ways possible. There was a movie that I can't remember the name of which had ants as the monster. They would cluster together, eat people, then use the bones as a mobile frame and make the bones walk around. Not very realistic but very creepy. I mean, can you imagine trying to kill them off with anything other than an industrial sized can of Raid? Not going to happen.

I also dig zombies.

Attempting to be serious: I'd recommend "The Host" to all.
Here's a novel idea - the monster isn't so much hell bent on distruction as it is confused, scared, awkward and hungry. It's believable. Kinda.
I liked the Host. Definitely a different point of view. Also, it was pretty different as most of it took place in bright daylight.
Has anybody seen the Legend of Boggy Creek? That scared me to death when I was a kid. Now, it's a bit laughable, but still the best bigfoot movie out there.
I also saw Boggy Creek as a kid, and it scared the living hell out of me. Probably because the style of the film is a mockumentary (only i think they are semi serious) and as a small kid i just didn't get that.

For a long time after that I was convinced that bigfoot was going to come in through my window in suburbia and try to kill me. bigfoot remains my favorite monster ever.

there is a MST3K version of boggy creek 2 that is sufficiently terrible to be enjoyed.

I always say it and you're probably sick of it, but I go with JAWS
Just the fact that I still think of JAWS when I am out there swimming in the ocean no matter how unreasonable it is.

When a little seaweed brushes by you, you can't help but think about it.

Other than that, ghost are always classic because of that unknown "could be in the dark" feeling.

Glad I wasn't the only one that thought that bigfoot/something was going to come in through my window.
