Along these same lines, but dealing more with human depravity than the supernatural, are some wonderful stories from none other than the author of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and James and the Giant Peach, Roald Dahl.
Tales of the Unexpected, though it does not contain the fantastic illustrations that Scary Stories does, is a brilliantly written collection of short stories whose main subjects are deception, death/murder, unfortunate circumstances, and silliness. I read these before I ever made the connection to his children's literature. I get a lot of the same feelings reading these stories as an adult as I did when I was a kid reading the Schwartz books.
Anyone else a fan?
