Here is a weird orb in my graveyard pic...

Ok, my name is Jon. I live in Elizabethton, TN and live right down the street from an old graveyard with A LOT of old graves...most date back to the late 1700's and into 1800's. Most of these graves are either destroyed or unreadable...some, not so much. Anyway, I got my fancy new digital camera and decided to do something I always wanted to: take pics in an old cemetary. The photo posted here is what we got..and it was definitely unexpected. A HUGE orb, better than any I have seen in a photo before. This thing was DEFINITELY not there when I snapped the shot and there is no reason for it to be there. Anyway, more on this pic after you look at it and it's inversion.....

I was joking about how creepy the tree looked with the graves around it, so I snapped this photo and got the unexpected. Now, as you can see...there is a streetlight above and to the right of the tree. That is the only light there and did not cause the orb...if you zoom in on this pic you can see the orb has strange colors in it and almost a figure inside it!

Any comments or opinions can be sent to me at x5uperFIVEx@yahoo.com or myspace.com/jcwilcox

The rest of the photos (40+) are available...just ask or check them out on my myspace account.

Jon, with all due respect, I must say that there is really no reason to assume that the "orb" in the photo was produced by supernatural influence. It is well known and documented that these particular photographic anomalies, regardless of how many people would like to believe they are evidence of something more, are really the result of the very mundane effect of dust or other fine particulates that happen to be drifting before the camera, at just the right angle to reflect the light from the flash.

There are many different kinds of dust to consider. What kind of particles are present in any given environment, and their various properties will determine how many orbs will be seen, and what characteristics they will take on. Skin cells or dander from animals, lint, clothing and furniture fibers, paper fibers, or some wood particles, which are found in the home might produce many fuzzy orbs. That depends of course on how often you vaccuum. :)

Particles of glass fiber that you might expect to see in a location where there may be fiberglass insulation, or even mineral dust (raised up from the soil by wind or being stirred up by feet) may produce fewer, bright orbs. The reason? More uniform dust particles, like fuzzy stuff that has no real angularity, will reflect light from the flash back to the lens from virtually any angle. Glass particles, or minerals will tend to be multi-faceted and will reflect light back only if they are at a certain angle to the lens and flash, thereby limiting the amount of orbs you might see, but increasing their intensity. That's to say nothing of water vapor, rain, mist, condensation, snow, ash, pollen, etc., etc.

With the incredible amount of potential culprits in the natural world, there really is no reason so speculate that orbs are created by supernatural forces. Trust me, I have a great interest in unexplained mysteries and many apparent paranormal phenomena (doo doo de doodoo) but there are real logical, perfectly acceptible explanations for these so-called orbs.

I love graveyards by the way. Completely creepy.
