What is your favorite Hot Dog?

Hot dogs? Oh man...

Back in Ontario, where i'm from in Canada, there's a small port town on the edge of Lake Erie called Port Dover.
Dover is famous for an old legendary take out joint known as 'The Arbor'. The Arbor has remained open for over 75 years,
through several generations, and a World War. While they do serve burgers, and fries, the Arbor is mainly known for it's
incredible hot dogs, and a drink known as the 'Glow'.

The thing that makes the Arbor hot dog stand head and shoulders above the rest is the face that they steam their dogs, as
opposed to boiling them. The condiments also add to the whole experience with everything ranging from Corn relish, Shredded Carrots, to Fried Mushrooms, and Horse radish. The Arbor dog is also an oversized footlong, meaning you're lucky if you can get one down your gullet.

What better beverage to wash down an Arbor dog, but a 'Golden Glow'. As the story goes, once they began to roll with the hotdog stand, they realized the people needed a cold bevvy to beat the heat, and help the hotdogs go down. They came up with the 'Golden Glow', which is basically Orange juice/Syrup, served in a cup with crushed ice. I don't know what else they put in there to make it go down so nice, but the taste always takes me back.

At the end of highschool/start of Uni, we would often head down to Dover on a Friday night to see the sight, and grab a dog. We would manage to improve on the recipe of the Golden Glow with a fifth of Vodka, and then it was off to the Lighthouse Pier to finish the dogs, and feel a little 'Golden Glow'.

I've been back to Dover in the last few years, and the Arbor remains. The experience is not the same as it was in my youth,
but the food can still take me back to some great memories.

BTW There's a joint here in Korea that puts Kimchi (Pickled Cabbage) on their dogs, and believe it or not, it's DAMN good.

Thanks for letting me share - TBone in Korea
Lucky Dogs are a staple in the Quarter in New Orleans. These ever-present street vendors were immortalized in A Confederacy of Dunces as "Paradise Hot Dogs".

There were many a night when, after a wonderfully intoxicated evening, I would indulge in the unidentifiable meat-stuff of Lucky Dogs when all the other cheap food places in the Quarter had closed. I always thought that Lucky Dogs was run by the mob and used as a means to dispose of the bodies. But I ate them anyways.
The is awesome...LUCKY DOGS ARE MADE OF PEOPLE!!!! ITS PEOPLE!!!

Has anyone ever had a "Michigan" hot dog?
They are actually native to North Country New York and they are like chilli dogs, but without the beans.
I have no idea why they are called Michigans.

I was in some place in Canada where they called french fries "Michigan Fries" (I think it was near London). Has anybody else ever heard it called that?

oh boy, where to begin

Hot Dog Johnny's in Buttzville, NJ
The Amazing Hotdog in Verona and now Boundbrook
Davey's Dog's in Mt. Arlington
Reindeer Hot Dogs in Alaska
Phil's Deli (sp?) in Astoria Queens (now closed I believe)
Or just a classic sabret on the grill while tailgating right before you go into the football game. Or......
My invention, inspired by my friend Glenn Garcia

Hot Dog, soft bun, wrapped in bacon then melted american cheese, topped with beans, ketchup, potatoes, chili, cheddar and a little spicy mustard.

come one, that has to be the winner

1. Packo's Hungarian Hot Dogs with chili, mustard, onion, and cheese (Fans of M*A*S*H* will no doubt recognize this from Klinger) - It is the best hot dog I've ever tasted. My husband and I have a cousin in Detroit and we have to drive right by Packo's when we go see him and on the way back we always grab a bag of ice and bring home 5 packs of dogs and a case of Chili. If you ever go there you gotta try their cabbage rolls too.

2nd - Chicago Dogs, they have the best toppings

3rd - Dirty water hot dog from the cart in front of the University of Louisville Emergency Room (with mustard and relish)
