3 Oddities. . .

*A couple of years ago I was watching The Travel Channel and heard the story of Convanenters Prison and Greyfriar cemetery. I watched as people who entered either got sick or injured by someone or something. One lady came out and her entire shoulder was red and inflamed as if licked by fire. Next they showed how another group was coming in to take the tour. The tour guide offered a warning that if you suffered from heart problems or were pregnant, you should not enter Greyfriar. I would LOVE to know if this is true! If you enter the prison, will you get sick or smacked around, maybe faint dead away?!

*Then there is the story of the moving coffins of Barbados. Named as 'The Chase Vault' and laid to rest inside was a Mrs. Goddard, a two year old Mary-Ann Chase in 1808, her sister Dorcas who committed suicide in 1812 and a few weeks later, the father, Thomas Chase. The coffins were moved several times from their original places thought to be thieves. Two more burials came about in 1816 and again, the coffins were found to have been moved. Thomas' coffin was made of lead and weighed 240 lbs. and thought to be much too heavy for one person to have moved it by themselves. Each time there was a new burial, cemetery workers would return to seal vault with cement. In 1819, the Governor put sand down to see if any footprints would be found, the next year when the vault was opened, the coffins had been moved but no foot prints were found. The governor ordered the coffins removed for burial, left the vault open and unsealed and the mystery was never solved.

*Julia Buccola died in child birth in 1921 at the age of 19. Her monument is a life-sized statue of Julia in her wedding dress.
Shortly after the burial, Julia's mother Filomena experienced strange dreams of her daughter telling her she was still alive. Six years later, Filomena recieved permission to open the grave. Julia was found to have looked as if she died that day. A photograph was taken of her in her coffin and embeded on her head stone. Julia Buccola is considered 'incorruptable'. A body that does not decay which is a condition observed in several saints.
