Ghost on the sofa bed

Every year my aunt, uncle, and cousins come up from NC during summer and Christmas time to stay with my grandparents for a little over a week. When they came up for summer in 2007, my cousin Richard was staying in the basement on a sofa bed while my aunt, uncle, and Maureen (my other cousin) were in the guest bedrooms upstairs. On one of the days my sister and I were visiting them, Rick asked if Maureen had been downstairs in the basement trying to scare him. She, looking confused, said no and asked why. Rick said that he had had the feeling that someone was in the room with him that night and someone had sat on his bed. He said he had distinctly felt the bed compress under the weight of another person. We have had various occasions like this...Maybe it's my great grandmother checking in on everybody...
